S7/G7 2026: Advancing Brain Health as a Global Priority

The S7 Academies Joint Statement “Advancing Brain Health (including Mental Health) for Global Societal Resilience” calls on the G7 to recognize brain health as a strategic priority for societal resilience, public health, and economic sustainability. According to the statement, brain disorders are estimated to affect one in three people during their lifetime and represent a leading cause of disability and mortality worldwide.

SBHF welcomes this initiative, which aligns closely with the Swiss contribution to an integrated and systemic approach to brain health, including the work of Claudio L. A. Bassetti, Indrit Bègue, and the Swiss Brain Health Plan (SBHP). The S7 statement explicitly cites both the European Academy of Neurology Brain Health Strategy by Bassetti et al. and the Swiss perspective article by Bègue et al., “One brain, one mind, one health, one planet.”

The statement further recommends the establishment of a G7 Brain Health Advisory Council, increased international investment and innovation, and stronger cross-border collaboration in neuroscience, prevention, and AI-driven brain health research.
